Within seven days after receiving approval or accreditation, the provider must submit a written declaration together with a copy of the proposed lease agreement, undertaking not to charge rental amounts exceeding those agreed upon between the provider and MAAUN.
MAAUN will provide the off-campus accommodation provider with a written service level agreement. The provider shall return a signed copy within seventy-two hours of receipt.
Once a property is accredited as suitable student accommodation, its details will be placed on the official MAAUN database for off-campus student accommodation, which will be regularly updated and made available to current and prospective students.
Accreditation or approval is valid for one year, renewable for a further 12 months, running from 1 January to 31 December each year. The accreditation procedure must be initiated annually. Renewal requires a new application form, another physical inspection with a positive recommendation, and compliance with all Minimum Accreditation Requirements. Accredited hostels and accommodation will be monitored and evaluated annually.
Notices advertising approved or accredited off-campus student accommodation may be placed on MAAUN notice boards only with the approval of the Founder, in consultation with the Vice President, Campus Life. Only accredited accommodation may be advertised on MAAUN notice boards.
The off-campus hostel or accommodation provider is responsible for familiarising itself with this policy and all ancillary MAAUN documents relating to off-campus accommodation. These documents may be obtained from the Vice President, Campus Life offices in hard copy or soft copy format.
Where an accredited property no longer meets the requirements prescribed by this policy, or where the provider breaches any provision, the designated officer for Off-Campus Accommodation will investigate and present the evidence and a recommendation for deaccreditation.
Investigations may include physical inspections of the property with prior notice to the provider, as well as interviews with students and/or the accommodation manager residing at the property.
MAAUN will issue directions through an inspection report describing how shortcomings must be addressed. The provider will be given a reasonable agreed timeframe to address the shortcomings and must provide written or documentary proof that they have been addressed.
If the provider fails to address shortcomings to the satisfaction of MAAUN within the agreed timeframe, accreditation will be withdrawn and the property removed from the MAAUN database and other platforms where accredited accommodation may be promoted or advertised.
The off-campus hostel or accommodation provider has the right to appeal against a deaccreditation decision of a committee.
MAAUN will not become involved in disputes of any nature between off-campus accommodation providers, and MAAUN platforms shall not be used to resolve such disputes.
MAAUN may immediately withdraw accreditation where clear evidence is found by the Vice President, Campus Life that accommodation providers solicit MAAUN staff or students through inducements, whether monetary or otherwise.
Where any provision of this policy or its ancillary documents is contravened after accreditation, MAAUN may withdraw accreditation and suspend the off-campus accommodation provider for a period of one year.
